Lingual Braces with WIN
Lingual braces are a fixed orthodontic appliance attached to the inner surfaces of the teeth. They are therefore barely visible when you speak or smile.

What are WIN lingual braces?
WIN is a fully customised fixed orthodontic appliance. The brackets are individually adapted to the surface of each tooth and connected by archwires manufactured for the planned treatment.
Because the appliance is fitted on the tongue side of the teeth, it is effectively hidden from normal view. As a fixed appliance, it also provides continuous, three-dimensional control of tooth movement.
Who may be suitable?
WIN may be suitable for adults who want treatment to be as discreet as possible while requiring the control offered by fixed braces.
The system may be considered for:

● rotated or misaligned teeth
● overbite, underbite or crossbite
● deep bite or open bite
● relapse after previous orthodontic treatment

How does treatment work?
Before treatment, the teeth, bite, jaw relationships and gum health are examined. Radiographs, clinical photographs and a digital 3D scan are taken when required.
The WIN appliance is then manufactured individually for your teeth according to the treatment plan. Once it is ready, the brackets are bonded to the inner surfaces of the teeth. During regular appointments, the archwires are adjusted or replaced so that the teeth gradually move towards their planned positions.
Treatment may also include elastics, springs, temporary anchorage devices or other appliances when required to correct the bite.
Adaptation and oral hygiene
Pressure or tenderness is common for the first few days after the appliance is fitted or adjusted. The tongue may initially become irritated, and speech can be temporarily affected. This usually improves as the mouth adapts to the appliance.
Thorough cleaning around the brackets, archwires and gums is important throughout treatment. You will receive individual guidance on suitable toothbrushes, interdental brushes and other cleaning aids.
Limitations
Lingual braces are not necessarily suitable for everyone. Adaptation may be more demanding than with braces fitted to the front of the teeth, and treatment requires good oral hygiene and regular appointments.
The most appropriate appliance is assessed individually according to the diagnosis, desired level of discretion, treatment needs, expected treatment time and cost.

After treatment
After the braces are removed, retainers are required to stabilise the result. This may include a fixed retainer behind the teeth, a removable retainer or a combination of both.
Retention is necessary to reduce the risk of the teeth moving back.
